Plein Airrrrr

So in my class, we did a plein air (painting outside) in the beginning of the class and again now around midterms.

This is my first one I did and it took me about 7 hours to do:

The second time around I did this one in about 2 hours:

I added a lot more contrast the second time around and in a faster rate. Definitely improving and getting used to painting more now. I also focused on creating a focal point for the second one than I did the first time and thought more about lighting.

ROCKKKK

Here's some roughs of my rock. I don't have it from beginning to end but you can see small changes I made in my B/W rock. It's camera quality so there's different colors going on there.

It was really difficult to paint the granite pattern of the rock while still keeping it's values to show the different faces of the rock. I kept trying different approaches but in the end I'm still not satisfied with how it came out. I'm posting my final version with my other final still lives in another post.

ACORNNNNN

Here is the second still life we worked on. It's an acorn!

This is my first block in:
Here is my finished piece for the 1st pass:

My thought process:
I made the shadow on the right side of the acorn warmer because my lighting was coming from the right side and transitioned it to a cooler bluer shadow on the left. I also tried to reflect the warm shadow on the nut itself and a cooler browns to the cap. I also gave warmer browns to the side of the nut that faced the light and cooler browns to the side that faced away from the light. It's kind of fun to think of temperature but drives me crazy too.

My teacher told me to add more darker values around the curve of the cap where the stem meets the top of the cap to give it more depth. I also need to curve the cap around the acorn more.

STONE EGGG

Taking 113B this semester, it's a painting class. We had to paint an egg and to make it more interesting we got to place colored paper underneath the egg for a colored reflected light. I had a neon orange color. I think my egg looks too dark that it's almost like a stone rock though.

I need to fix some minor stuff that you can't really see unless it's up close. But it's the part where the edge of my shadow meets the egg on the left side (fatter and rounder part of egg) and another smaller part that I can't really describe. I'm also going to fix my shadow blending to fade out better.

I'll post my other still life soon.

Sexy Box

For this semester I took ani51a, maya modeling. We took an object of our choice and modeled it. Here is my final piece. It's a box used to store spools of thread for sewing. It could use more touch-ups but it turned out nice. I'm happy with it =]

I also have my painting of my still life in color but I'm lazy to scan that so whenever I do I will upload that. Been a good semester. Oh and I did get into the program! yay! Also, found a job on campus. It's with super fun people. Awesome semesterrrrr~

Here's a picture of the box I modeled after:
