FINAL STILL LIFES

Plein Airrrrr

So in my class, we did a plein air (painting outside) in the beginning of the class and again now around midterms.

This is my first one I did and it took me about 7 hours to do:

The second time around I did this one in about 2 hours:

I added a lot more contrast the second time around and in a faster rate. Definitely improving and getting used to painting more now. I also focused on creating a focal point for the second one than I did the first time and thought more about lighting.

Here's some roughs of my rock. I don't have it from beginning to end but you can see small changes I made in my B/W rock. It's camera quality so there's different colors going on there.

It was really difficult to paint the granite pattern of the rock while still keeping it's values to show the different faces of the rock. I kept trying different approaches but in the end I'm still not satisfied with how it came out. I'm posting my final version with my other final still lives in another post.
